Acceptable use policy

Acceptable use

This policy forms part of the terms. The first section is the one that matters most here, and it is not negotiable.

Effective date 2026-09-10

Never in a dispute between a buyer and a seller

Output from this service must not be used to return an item, to make a claim or a complaint, to publicly review a seller, or as evidence in any dispute arising from buying or selling anything.

That covers a marketplace dispute, a chargeback, a claim against a seller or a shop, a complaint to a platform, a public review, feedback, a rating, and any correspondence intended to obtain a refund, replacement or compensation.

The reason is simple: this service works out which class of source a noise belongs to, from the timing of when it happens. It has never seen the copy in your hands, and it produces no condition grade, no score and no valuation. Presenting its output as a finding about a particular item, or about how a seller described one, would be presenting it as something it is not.

If you ask it about returns, refunds, sellers, buyers, reviews, disputes, claims, condition or grading, it stops and says so rather than producing a reading at all.

No grading, scoring or valuation

Do not present any output of this service as a condition grade, a score, a star rating, a valuation, a price or a market opinion. None of those is produced here and none can be derived from what is.

Second-hand trading has its own established grading conventions. This service neither replaces them nor produces anything citable against them.

Never as a basis for work on equipment

Anything involving mains power, earthing or opening equipment needs someone qualified. This does not cover it and should not be used to work on it.

Do not use anything on this site as instructions for adjusting, fitting, aligning, opening, wiring, earthing, soldering or repairing any piece of equipment. No figure or step for any equipment setting appears anywhere here, and none should be inferred from what does.

Where the service says that cleaning can change a class of noise, that is a statement about the class, not a method. It does not tell anyone how to clean anything, and nothing here should be treated as a cleaning instruction.

High-risk uses

Do not use this service, or anything it produces, for:

  • Medical decisions of any kind
  • Legal decisions or as evidence in legal proceedings
  • Financial decisions
  • Safety-critical or life-critical purposes
  • Employment decisions
  • Credit or insurance decisions
  • Housing decisions
  • Anything to do with the justice system

General prohibitions

Do not use this service to:

  • Break any law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy or publicity rights
  • Defame, harass, threaten or abuse anybody
  • Impersonate this service, its operator or its staff, or misrepresent what its output says
  • Mislead anybody about what this service is, what it can determine, or what a reading means
  • Circumvent rate limits, plan allowances or access controls
  • Scrape, reverse engineer, or resell access to the service
  • Run automated traffic against the service outside any documented interface

What you write

Do not submit other people’s personal information. There is no reason to: the service only ever needs a description of when a noise happens.

There is no upload of any kind here, for audio or images, so no content of that sort can be submitted at all.

What happens if this policy is broken

Depending on what has happened we may warn you, suspend your account, or close it. Where we close a paid account for a breach of this policy, we will refund any period you have paid for but not used, because withholding it would be a penalty rather than a remedy.

Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights. To report misuse, write to support@scotchbon.shop.
